FAQs, Tips, Warranty and Care

All Gold Trailers include a 5 Year Structural and 10 Year Axle Warranty & FREE First Service. Our Warranty covers both Domestic and Business use.

What does this mean?

We will fix any manufacturing defects to the trailer chassis and body for a period of 5 years. We will fix any manufacturing defects to the axle for a period of 10 years.

When is the warranty void?

The warranty is void if the claim relates to an item that has been damaged due to misuse, accident or lack of servicing.

Warranty for other parts of the trailer:

Lighting - 12 Months

Lights are covered for a period of 12 months. Be aware that our standard light package suits a 12V system. Some trucks are 24V and will damage the lighting. Please advise us if you require 24V compatibility.

Consumables - 12 Months

Your trailer includes parts that wear and must be serviced, maintained, or replaced over time. These items are covered for 12 Months and include; lighting, tyres, brake master and slave cylinders, brake fluid, brake shoes, wheel bearings, suspension bushes, springs and tow couplings. Please note that if your wheel bearings are not regularly adjusted and replaced as required, they can fail and damage the axle. This will not be covered by the 10 year axle warranty. Driving with the brakes on can also damage the bearings and axle and will not be covered by the 10 year axle warranty.

Paint - Not Covered

Unfortunately, we cannot offer any warranty on paint or other coatings. Please read on to discover why.

What is a trailers paint subjected to?

A trailer lives in a very harsh environment, it has rocks thrown at it at 110km/h by a tow vehicle just 1.5 metres away, it also has rocks dropped in it by the tonne load, it has furniture and tie down clips scraped across it and people walking on it plus it gets stored outside in the sun and rain and is often never washed.

So, what are the coating options?

We offer you the choice of a variety of coating options for your trailer including industry standard, Australian made hammer tone trailer paint, Raptor coating, powder coating, crash shop paint and galvanising or you can also choose to purchase an unpainted trailer and paint it yourself.

Which one should you choose?

It depends on your expectations and budget. We have tested and used many coatings and, while some are better than others, galvanising aside, we have found none that will not chip or scratch when submitted to the harsh environment that a trailer is subjected to.

Hammer tone paint

Our standard paint finish is a charcoal-coloured hammer tone paint manufactured in Australia. It is commonly used by Australian trailer manufacturers and is a good choice when considering budget vs protection.

Raptor coating

Raptor coating is one of the toughest paints you can buy. It is certainly tougher than hammer tone paint and is a good choice if you have a high budget and want high longevity. The manufacturers promote it as being fade resistant. Be aware that it is not impervious to chipping and scratching.

Powder coating

Powder coating is not a paint at all. It is a plastic coating that is melted onto the trailer. It is also tougher than hammer tone paint but is extremely expensive and can crack over time. It does tend to fade and is not impervious to chipping and scratching.

Crash shop finish

We can also send your trailer off to a crash shop for a car quality paint job. This is the best finish available but is also the most expensive. It can cost significantly more than the actual cost of the trailer and is not impervious to chipping and scratching.

Galvanising

Galvanising is the best protection, but it is not without its own issues. Good quality Australian galvanising is a hot dip process. It involves submerging the trailer in an extremely hot vat of molten zinc. This causes the metal to expand and contract which causes warping of large surfaces such as trailer floors. We build our trailers as advised by Adelaide Galvanising to minimise this issue as much as possible. The finished galvanised surface will have some imperfections. Galvanising is the hardest protection available but even it can wear through eventually.

Other protection options are available.

We can supply and install:

  • Stone guards which are made from a shade cloth like mesh.
  • Aluminium stone protection to any surfaces that you want to protect like the front of the trailer and guards.
  • Fish-oil protection to the inside of the chassis rails.
  • Bituminous paint to the underside of the trailer

Examples where the warranty does not apply:

Overloading

All trailers have a legal carrying capacity. Exceeding this limit is illegal and can also cause structural damage to your trailer.

Accidents & Punctures

Severely hitting a curb with your trailer wheel at speed can destroy a tyre, bend a wheel rim or bend an axle. When towing always remember that you have a trailer attached and be particularly careful if it is wider than your tow vehicle. Jack-knifing the trailer can bend the drawbar.

Springs

Slipper springs can pop out of the rear carrier if you reverse your trailer without locking the over-run brakes to the off position. This can also happen if you are reversing a heavily laden trailer and try and push a wheel up a curb.

Wheels

Wheel nuts must be regularly checked and torqued to the correct setting. If your wheel nuts are loose this can damage the wheel to the point where it can come off.

Rust

We do not provide a warranty against rust. Wherever your trailer is scratched it will develop surface rust. This does not mean your trailer is going to fall apart. What tends to happen is that after a film of surface rust develops any further rusting slows. A painted trailer can last decades and still be structurally fine. You can extend its life by repainting occasionally and by being careful with what you leave in it. One of the worst things that can be left in a trailer is wet grass clippings. As the grass composts the heat and moisture produced will promote rust.

Making a warranty claim:

Please contact us if you have any issues. The warranty is a return to base warranty. Please return the trailer to us for any claims.

Money Back Guarantee:

If you're not happy with your new trailer we would like to work with you to solve any issues. We will give you a refund if you request one within 7 days of pick-up date. The trailer must be returned to us in as-new condition. We are unable to refund the registration fees. You can get a refund from Service SA. The refund offer applies to any trailer that is on our website up to 2 Tonne. It does not apply to custom builds or trailers modified from a standard build.

Guaranteed Buy Back:

We will purchase you trailer back at a percentage of the original purchase price. The percentage offered is determined by the number of months that you have owned the trailer. The Buy Back offer applies to any trailer that is on our website up to 2 Tonne. It does not apply to custom builds or trailers modified from a standard build.

Storage:

Each trailer purchased is entitled to 1 Months free storage in our vehicle storage facility.

Servicing:

Like your car, a trailer needs to be regularly serviced. We recommend at minimum a yearly service and more often if your trailer is used daily. This remains important even if your trailer is not regularly used as some parts can deteriorate when not used.

Please note that your first service is free within the first 6 months

Insurance & theft protection:

We offer a range of theft deterrents and GPS trackers. Also, consider if you require insurance. Trailers are prone to theft. Your car insurance provider can also insure your trailer.

Roadside assist:

The RAA can provide roadside assist that covers your trailer in the event of a breakdown. Please contact them for further details.
